Grooming dogs is...

What you should know

вовна вовна вовна вовна вовна вовна вовна

As practice shows, not everyone fully understands what grooming is and who is a groomer. We’ll try to explain the content of these terms in detail and as briefly as possible.

What is Grooming?

Grooming is a complex service (it consists of several procedures that complement each other). Contrary to popular belief, the goal of grooming is not just a beautiful haircut and shiny fur for a pet, but the health and beauty of your dog!

What does grooming consist of? Here are the main procedures included in full dog grooming:

  • • Washing and drying (using special means)
  • • Removing of hairballs and untangling of fur (if necessary)
  • • A dog’s haircut
  • • Trimming and stripping (unnatural molting)
  • • Cleaning of the paranal glands (if necessary)
  • • Ear treatment (cleaning and washing)
  • • Eye treatment (using special antiseptic products)
  • • Treatment of nasal sinuses (cleaning)
  • • Treatment of the oral cavity (teeth cleaning)
  • • Claw care (trimming, sharpening, etc.)
  • • Prophylactic antiparasitic treatment

Naturally, all of these procedures don’t have to be carried out simultaneously, in one session. At the appointment, the groomer will listen to your preferences and, together with you , will make a plan of action, including only necessary procedures for your pet.

Who is a Groomer?

The groomer is a professional animal care master. The list of skills of a good groomer includes not only the ability to groom a dog. A good groomer understands a dog’s psychology, knows its anatomy, the structure, and peculiarities of the skin and fur of different breeds, and can quickly and efficiently work with various tools. The groomer isn’t a dog hairdresser, but rather a stylist and an SPA-specialist for dogs.

Types of Grooming

Grooming is divided into three main types:

Professional grooming, also known as salon grooming. This is the most common and demanded type. Typically, people who don’t have a lot of time to groom their dog themselves or there is no possibility to do any procedures at home turn to salon grooming. For example, not everyone can thoroughly brush thick fur, carry out the proper trimming at home, etc.

Show (breed) grooming. Before the exhibition, some breeds of dogs require special grooming (in addition to the basic procedures), also special haircuts – show-trimming (to maintain a proper exterior).

Creative grooming. At the owner’s request, dog grooming can acquire a creative direction, not limited by breed rules and norms and even the type of animal.

Which dogs need grooming?

The answer is simple – all of them! In fact, there are breeds for which grooming is obligatory.

For example:

Schnauzers, poodles, and terriers have hard wool that needs to be thinned periodically.

Chihuahua and Chow Chow constantly require trimming.

In general, it can be summarized as follows: breeds with long fur require grooming more frequently. For short-haired breeds, hygienic procedures are mostly sufficient.

Features of grooming in salons

Many of these procedures can be done at home, so why do people prefer a salon? There are several reasons why dog owners prefer to turn to specialists:

  • • Professional tools and equipment – it’s quite expensive to buy for home use
  • • Specially equipped accommodation – it’s not always possible to have the same at home
  • • High-quality, professional grooming
  • • Prevention of diseases (dermatitis, inflammation, irritation, etc.)
  • • Reduction in molting intensity

Before visiting the salon, it’s necessary to walk the dog. Feeding should be done after visiting.
